Are You a Prepper for LIFE? I Mean, the REAL LIFE?

I’m a prepper, she’s a prepper, they a prepper, we a prepper, you can be a prepper too!!

But really, I’m a virgin “Prepper!”

A few years ago, there was this television series called “Preppers”.  Cool show, right? People in the USA, and even other places in the world, felt impending doom. As a result, they began to prepare for the worst possible scenarios. Many dropped out of the “grid,” municipalities, as in, electricity, water, social media, or any place where they thought the government could trace them out; find them. You talkin’ ’bout incognito, some were so determined to become self-sufficient, they even made their own gas! HOW DARE THEY!! Really, I was impressed with that feat.

ME? That kind of prepper? No way! I want my electricity. I need it!

In 1989, when Hugo, one of the worst hurricanes to hit our coast, we were without electricity for nine, count it, 9…whole…days…and nights. I never want that to happen again! Now, don’t get me wrong, I like grilled stuff, sandwiches, and can food, but enough is enough already!

Enough of the grilled food!

In that same year, we had moved back to the “farm,” my parents’ farm. I became sick soon after. (What I had is another story.) As I prayed, I felt lead to delve into  food. Now this was before the internet became big. And what I learned about our food is also another story. But, I began to slowly garner the truth that in order to heal, get better, become healthier, I needed to doctor myself with nutrient dense food. So, my husband, Homie and I went back to our roots of growing up on a small farm with a huge garden next to the yard; step out of the yard and into the garden.IMG_0466

We didn’t consider ourselves preppers or hippies, as some people now refer to gardeners as, or even farmers. But we began to grow backyard fowls, vegetables, and I began to research what was wrong with our food.

So you may be wondering why I’m writing an inspirational, spiritual blog about prepping, food, virgins, and sickness, well, here goes…

One day, in the garden, after watching many of the “preppers” programs on television, I wondered if we were considered preppers. I laughed, knowing my need for electricity, air conditioning, heat, and my electric stove. However, that thought took my thoughts into a spiritual direction, a Biblical direction, in point, to the scriptures where Jesus likened the Kingdom of Heaven to virgins. A hot topic, right? (Laugh here, I did.)

In my minds eye, I began to view these ten virgins as preppers, as preppers are always preparing for tomorrow, impending doom, the electrical grid going down, or government taking over. Because, no matter what you think…the sun WILL rise in the morning, and tomorrow WILL come. There will never not be a tomorrow here on earth.

But I do love the mentality of preppers! Because they are busy preparing, or “prepping,” for tomorrow, and all the tomorrows, as far as their eyes can see. They have no doubts about it.

Now, lets get Biblical!!

Inter in the 10 virgins: Matthew 25: The Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five were foolish and five were wise. The foolish took their lamps, but no oil. The five wise took oil along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming and they all fell asleep.

At midnight a cry rang out: “Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!”

The virgins awoke! They trimmed their lamps! The five foolish said to the wise virgins, “Give us some of your oil, our lamps are going out.”

“No,” They replied, “there may not be enough for all of us. Go buy you some.”

But while they were on their way, the bridegroom arrived! The five “prepper ready” virgins went in with the bridegroom to the banquet. The door was shut. The other five came and wanted to come in, but the door was shut.

Then Jesus said, “Keep watch. Prepare for my coming, even though you do not know the day or the hour.”

But…do I really believe Jesus is coming back, after all, it’s been…like…2000 years since he said that, right? That’s a loooooooong time to wait for a husband! No wonder the virgins were asleep. Here, I wonder at times, because of the things I do, if I’m becoming a lazy, sleepy, yawning, foolish virgin. Well, maybe.

But this I know, and am sure of: Jesus is soon coming back! I’m just as sure he’s coming back as I’m sure the sun will come up and it will be tomorrow. You know why? Because mankind is not in charge of the sun, tomorrow, or the earth’s revolving revolutions around the sun! You know who is? God…Jesus… And I am sure, without a doubt in my heart or mind, that Jesus is soon coming back. You know how I know this? Yes, you guessed it! Because mankind in not in charge of when Jesus will be coming back for his bride. You know who is? Yes! You guessed it! God is in charge! It’s just as sure as the sun coming up tomorrow.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall inherit eternal life!

God already gave his son, Jesus. He has already died on the cross for our sins. It’s an historical, documented fact. On that assurance, I believe in the rest of the story! His soon return.

He is risen!

But…sadly, just as those five virgins who didn’t take any extra oil, some people, even to some who think they are “Christians” but are not, the door will be shut in their faces. Those who think they have time to “get their heart right with God,” who don’t have Jesus in their heart, will be like the five foolish virgins. Their’s no time to go buy oil. There’s no time to confess and invite Jesus into their hearts. Because, when the bridegroom, our Lord and savior, comes for his bride, he will snatch us away in the twinkling of an eye.

As lightening flashes from the east to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Today, as we see the time approaching for Jesus to come back, we need to become “preppers,” by preparing ourselves and make sure we have the oil of the spirit in our hearts, the Holy Spirit.  We must trim our wicks and be ready for the fire of Jesus to fall upon us and be taken away into the marriage banquet as his bride.

This parable Jesus told was based on the Jewish tradition of marriage and waiting on the groom to prepare a place for his bride. (If you don’t know that tradition, I’ll explain it in another blog.)

Through repentance, asking Jesus, and Holy Spirit into our hearts, we become a part of “The Bride of Christ.” And you must believe in your heart that he is the son of God, was crucified, and arose from the grave on the third day. Then, like the wise virgins, stay ready, through believing, praying, and loving Jesus, who is coming back for us soon, whether we are alive or our bodies in the grave. It’s just as sure as the sun rising on every tomorrow we have left here on earth.

We must continually keep our wicks trimmed by putting all sin away from our hearts and in our lives. Trimming a wick is cutting it. We have to cut sin away from our lives.

Deuteronomy 10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

Since we know the lamp is representative of our spirits, are we constantly refilling our lamps, trimming the dross or darkness or the world out of our heart, minds and spirits? Spiritual preppers, we must be mindful he is coming soon!

In essence, aren’t we all “preppers” in one way or another? I may not be a modern prepper, making a disappearing act from the public grid, but I’m most definitely a spiritual prepper waiting to disappear from this earth at any given moment, to be snatched away to the heavenly banquet as a bride of Christ!!

Are you? If not, become a spiritual, virgin “prepper” by inviting Jesus into your heart today. He will trim your wick, and give you the “oil” necessary to have your lamp burning when he comes and snatches his bride away to the marriage banquet.
